Room Mate Grace
One of the best deals in town, this hotel features an indoor, swim-up bar frequented by locals.
The Spanish boutique brand, Room Mate Hotels, expanded into the U.S. market with New York City's Grace. Formerly known as the Hotel QT, the property was originally opened by André Balazs, creator of the Standards in L.A. and Miami, and jokingly referred to as the sub-Standard for its budget-friendly rates. This Times Square-adjacent property features niceties such as flat-screen TVs (one per bunk in the 4-person, super-budget-friendly bunk rooms), free Internet access and complimentary continental breakfast.
The entrance of this 139-room property is discreet, and the lobby is equipped with a check-in kiosk. Designed by Lorenzo Castillo, the rooms are decorated in rich textiles and wallpapers that give them an upscale feel; platform beds raise mattresses to window sill level, and in some accommodations, showers open right into the room. The big draw for locals is the bar, which is incorporated into the two-story, lobby-level pool area. Be prepared for cocktails aplenty, steam rooms and a DJ booth. Needless to say, the party scene is a given here.
