Jason Pomeranc's signature brand of cool on the Lower East Side.
Hotelier Jason Pomeranc’s Lower East Side outpost of his SIXTY empire caters to an über-hip jet-set crowd. The eighteen-story tower houses 141 accommodations, all of which are more spacious than the average Big Apple hotel room (in excess of 350 square feet), and --- no surprise, coming from Mr. Pomeranc --- just a bit sleeker than their brethren. Following a philosophy of alternative chic made famous by icons of film, theater and music from Hollywood's Golden Era, the hotel exudes a vibe that is understated and cool. The property itself is industrial-chic, and the spartan lobby belies the high level of comfort in the accommodations. Decked out in retro wood paneling with plenty of back-lighting, each room is sectioned with a chain curtain dividing the bed from the silky pull-out couch area. Rooms are equipped with plenty of amenities, such as complimentary Wi-Fi, LCD flat-screen TVs and premium cable service, along with in-room movie libraries, iPod docks, rain showers and turndown service that includes brownies. The seasonal rooftop pool is a work of art, literally, with a lithograph of Andy Warhol on its floor. House restaurant Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya serves Japanese tavern fare.
