Soho Grand Hotel
A vibrant, trendsetting hotel, popular with celebrities and fashionistas.
If you’re wondering why there are bronze statue of Dobermans at the entrance of this hotel, it’s because this industrial-chic property is owned by pet food maker Hartz Mountain. And yes, dogs and cats are welcome. They even enjoy perks such as body pillows. As for those with no Fido to bring along --- worry not. The hotel will lend you a goldfish for your stay. A staircase of translucent Coke bottle glass, suspended from the ceiling by two enormous cables, leads to the stylish lobby, where the restaurant and bar pay homage to SoHo’s "cast-iron district" heritage. The 353 rooms are smallish, as are their retro gray-and-white-tiled bathrooms with pedestal sinks and little space for your toiletries. The hotel does provide you with posh bath amenities, however. Neighborhood artistic associations have inspired the décor of the rooms. End tables mimic sculptors' stands, desks are reminiscent of drafting tables and mini-bars resemble campaign chests. The latter contain such trendy items as breakfast bars and organic juices. You won’t want for technology here, what with the flat-screen TVs, digital cable, movies-on-demand, iPods, Bose SoundDocks and complimentary Wi-Fi. The Club Room's dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, while those looking to lounge can cozy up in the Parlor by the stone fireplace. For an energetic vibe, head to the Grand Bar & Lounge, where guests and their guests alike gather for live music on select evenings.
