The Empire Hotel
A richly textured interior offers plenty of design eye candy.
Uber convenient to everything Lincoln Center-oriented, The Empire Hotel could probably get away with offering a not-very-exciting interior. But a renovation sent the classic hotel's good looks through the roof. Or, we should say, up to the roof. The thoughtful lobby décor, with a seriously sexy seating area featuring rich browns, golds and good lighting, even offers a treat for the nose --- an amber-rich scent hangs in the air. Anybody (locals included) keen on a good view of the city should pop into the elevators off the lobby and head up to the rooftop bar. The fireplace makes for a cozy way to spend cooler evenings, and year-round, the night view of Lincoln Center is stellar. When the weather turns warm, guests can lounge on the pool deck and swim high above cultural hot spots in the rooftop pool. Beautiful tree-print wallpaper lines the halls on the way to the 426 rooms and suites, which offer a take on mid-century modern. Bold patterns, bright white Frette linens and rich fabrics that recall the lobby color palette make for a cozy temporary home. In addition to complimentary Wi-Fi, there are iPod docking stations and flat-screen televisions in every room. Guests have access to a fitness center and a meeting room that can accommodate up to 250. For those in search of cocktails, the lobby's sexy good looks continue into the lobby bar. The house restaurant is the upscale yet cozy Ed's Chowder House.
