Top 10 Pet Friendly Hotels in New York
Historic hotel for convention center visitors and Macy's shoppers.
Glenn Miller unwittingly immortalized this hotel with the 1940 song “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” which referred to the hotel’s telephone number (and which has never changed, save for the extra digits you have to dial today). The building was designed in 1919 by the firm of McKim, Mead and White and has a long and rich history, especially with 1930s Big Bands. Now it largely caters to a business clientele who take advantage of its proximity to the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Madison Square Garden is across the street, and Macy’s, the Empire State Building and Times Square are all just steps away. The 1,705 rooms are decorated nicely, albeit schizophrenically, with streamlined and modern looks in some rooms and French rococo accents in others. But all are spirited and brightly lit, with a uniform lack of clutter. Downstairs, ballrooms and boardrooms abound. Guests may use the fitness center next door, which has an Olympic-size pool, at half off rates. Other extras include a transportation desk and business center.
