A small luxury spa hotel in the picturesque Catskill Forest Preserve.
Named after Ralph Waldo, this hotel is a gem in the Catskills near the Zen monastery in Woodstock, New York. The spa is state-of-the-art, with a Vichy shower, Eastern-influenced treatments and a Bali-esque feel. Packages include services such as Ayurvedic consultations, detox treatments and the exotic-sounding Indian Head Massage. Rooms come in five themes --- African, Asian, Persian, Victorian and West Indies Colonial. Rates include breakfast, dinner and high tea. The cellar contains 5,000 bottles of wine, making this a great setting for gourmet-based wine weekends. There's no shortage of recreation here, from an indoor resistance pool to miles of nature trails, and while this place is popular with pleasure seekers, it also attracts company retreats with meeting facilities located in a separate building. Three on-site restaurants include the lodge-inspired The Phoenix with Chinese wood and decorative accents, a breakfast menu and an ideal space for hosting public events. In addition, The Catamount offers casual fare all day and the Country Store Cafe, the resort's takeaway venue of sorts, rounds out the dining options on offer.
