Well-being for body and soul is the main focus at this "evolved" health spa with on-site accommodations.
The conventional indulgences usually associated with the standard resort are wholly absent here. Rather, health and well-being from the inside out is the focus. Guests are kept busy with everything from meditation at the crack of dawn to intensive yoga and tai chi throughout the day at the well-equipped yoga and meditation center complete with heated floors and field stone fireplace. Optional activities include trail hikes, acupuncture workshops and participation in the ancient Native-American sweat lodge cleansing ritual. The property is located on 280 acres in the Catskill Forest Preserve. It includes eight miles of hiking trails and the Unami Lodge, which opened in late 2002. Rooms are intentionally sparse. There are no televisions or telephones, all the better for gazing inward at the soul. A 50-foot Alpine Tower and a run through the Labyrinth help guests overcome mental barriers through physical exertion. Three meals a day come largely from the on-site greenhouses and garden, and are fixed to a total of approximately 1,500 calories. For the more ambitious, there is a five-day juice fast, supplemented by colonic therapy. Rounding out the facilities are a fitness complex, outdoor heated swimming pool, whirlpool tub, tennis courts, an indoor heated swimming pool with solarium and whirlpool tub, a pampering spa and co-ed steam and sauna rooms.
