Cheap, non-chain lodgings at the beach.
Neon lights sit atop this 50-room, four-story Carolina landmark. Once known as the Royal Palm Hotel & Fountain Apartments, it is virtually surrounded by sand. There are two fishing piers within a ten-minute drive, and the surf fishing is fine along the beach just a few minutes walk from your room. Although recently renovated, this building has no elevator, and old-fashioned window units provide the air-conditioning. But some of the accommodations have views of the Atlantic, and the lounge is a well-known hot spot. Rooms come in a variety of sizes, from singles to king suites with full kitchens. Basic amenities in all include refrigerators, microwaves and cable TV.
