Best Hotels in Raleigh/Durham
One of Wilmington's oldest, most elegant homes.
This B&B inn was built in 1905-06, and a tasteful remodel has maintained its lovely turn-of-the-century charms. A majestically pillared portico guards the front door; the style is carried inside with Corinthian and Ionic columns complementing the 14-foot ceiling and plaster moldings in the parlor. Furnishings are traditional and antiques reign throughout. Unlike many old-fashioned accommodations, this one feels airy and spacious. There is room to breathe as you laze in the sitting room overlooking the garden or sip coffee before breakfast on the lovely veranda. As for the morning meal itself, it is served on a majestic Sheraton mahogany table or tables for two in the dining room. All of the nine suites are tasteful and luxurious. Some have claw-footed tubs, while others are graced with sitting rooms and fireplaces. Smoking is allowed only on the veranda. The library is paneled in Honduras Mahogany and complimentary cordials are served here in the evening. Children over 12 are welcome.
