Crystal River Inn Bed & Breakfast
Opulent style and a homey attitude combine at this hospitable B&B.
This mansion was constructed in 1883 by the co-founder of Southwest Texas State University. It was converted into a B&B in 1984, and through the years has expanded to include two additional buildings. All provide homey accommodations with unique touches that range from a marble garden tub with gold-plated fixtures to twelve-foot ceilings and fabric-upholstered walls. Fresh flowers, gardens, antiques and fireplaces add to the charming atmosphere. Each room is named for a river in Texas, and all offer a distinct style, from the romantic Victorian look of the Medina Room to the dark, dignified atmosphere of the San Miguel. Two corporate apartments are aimed at business travelers and feature several work-friendly amenities. The inn also provides wireless Internet and a full gourmet breakfast, and picnics can be requested for leisurely outings along the San Marcos River. Of note is a selection of theme retreats, the most popular being Murder Mystery Weekends; these five weekends sell out months in advance and allow guests to take part in a mystery in the vein of the board game Clue. Other packages include Romantic Interludes, Destination Weddings and Spa Getaways, the latter taking advantage of the inn's own massage facility and salon.
