Best Western Plus Sunset Suites Riverwalk
Good value and reliable chain comfort in historic St. Paul Square.
This 64-room all-suites hotel has experienced more reinventions than Madonna. The original structure built in 1896 has served as a leather manufacturer, grocery store and a speakeasy during prohibition, with the lobby's original walls, stained glass doors and staircase reminders of days gone by. Simple but spacious standard suites feature solid oak Mission-style furnishings and are available with either two full beds or one king; deluxe double suites are a bit roomier. All have a sleeper sofa, mini wet bar, microwave, compact refrigerator and free high-speed Internet access. Light sleepers may want to avoid the first floor due to foot and traffic noise, but keep in mind that there's no getting away from the interstate. The upside is that the Commerce Street location gives you direct access to almost everything downtown by walking, a short taxi ride or the new Primo BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) service with a stop across the street from the hotel. Business travelers will appreciate the two-block walk to the convention center; from there it's just a staircase down to the River Walk. Perks include free parking, a complimentary breakfast buffet in the dining area (no on-site restaurant), a fitness center, a business center and free 24-hour coffee. Not allowed on-site: smoking and pets.
