Eva's Escape at the Gardenia Inn
Southern charm with an appealing setting for foodies in the heart of the King William district.
Formerly known as the Gardenia Inn, this relaxing, romantic gem was renamed Eva's Escape in honor of Eva Mae Green Williams, the Alabama-born matriarch of the family that now carries on her tradition of Southern grace and hospitality. Built in 1905, the Greek revival-style home features five cozy king or queen rooms: Gardenia, Bluebonnet, Magnolia, Lavender and Desert Blossom. Each comes with a private bath (some with claw-foot tubs) and a warm, welcoming mix of old and new style and amenities, including antique furnishings, Turkish cotton robes, MP3 docking stations and free high-speed Internet access and Netflix. A full breakfast is served in the dining room, with a featured daily hot entrée such as roasted vegetable frittata or "family secret" waffles. Afternoons bring refreshing beverages and sweet treats. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available with advance notice. The gazebo, lawns and porch are lovely settings for weddings and special events (the owner is a former event planner), and the River Walk is just two blocks away. Within a three-block radius guests will find some of the area's favorite restaurants: Feast, Rosario's, Azuca, The Liberty Bar, La Foccacia and more.
