Omni La Mansión del Rio

112 College St. (Navarro St.) San Antonio TX

A romantic mood pervades this elegant, Spanish Colonial-style hotel.

Perhaps you've heard the stories about Americans who travel abroad. They tell natives of the foreign countries they visit that they come from America but Texans will tell you: "We are from Texas." Prior to becoming a state, Texas was a republic and today the Daughters of the Republic care for historical landmarks: starting with the Alamo. The Battle of the Alamo was a big deal and Texans take pride in their heritage. There is quite a bit of history in the Lone Star State and San Antonio is a charming place to experience it. If you are in San Antonio we believe that Omni La Mansion del Rio is the absolute best dorm for your learning adventure.

This historic building began as a private school in 1854 before eventually evolving into St. Mary's University law school. Then, in 1966, the blackboards were traded in for beds, and the property became one of the most elegant hotels along the River Walk. There is much history here and the old college has been preserved and renovated over the years. Close to the Alamo and everything else, right on the Riverwalk, the location is prime.

The refined atmosphere is a welcome retreat from the riverside action. Guests are greeted by a lobby filled with Spanish and Mexican antiques, and although the building's collegiate days are over, they are recalled in El Colegio, a throwback to an old Texas speakeasy in what was once the university library. House restaurants include the fine dining venue, Las Canarias, serving artisan American cuisine, and Ostra, offering a sustainable seafood menu and oyster bar. Morsel's provides a more casual setting for coffee, beverages, pastries, snacks and sandwiches. Room service is also available.

Like the public areas, the 338 romantic guest rooms and suites in this smoke-free property echo the Spanish history of the area. Many have beamed ceilings and graceful arches, as well as private balconies overlooking the River Walk. The Navarro Suite boasts a fantastic skyline view, and the Presidential Suite has its own dining room and dry sauna. Many celebrities have come here over the years to load up on Texas hospitality: Kevin Costner, Julio Iglesias, Brooke Shields, Jerry Seinfeld, Yo-Yo Ma and Bill Clinton to name just a few.

There is no on-site spa, but guests enjoy access to the 17,000-square-foot Mokara Spa sanctuary at the hotel's sister property just across the river. The Mokara also offers a fitness center for La Mansión del Rio guests to use. On-site, though, there is a small, charming pool area with seasonal Dive-In movies and Friday night mariachi performances. More than 18,000 square feet of meeting and event space includes the Iberian Ballroom for up to 500.
