Best Hotels in San Antonio
A historic San Antonio landmark transformed into a modern luxury hotel.
Opened in the spring of 2015 following a monumental $24 million renovation, the “Queen of San Antonio” preserves the building’s historic character while adding a slew of modern amenities to create one-of-a-kind stays in this distinctive Texas city. The 1909 building boasts a storied past as a luxury hotel that hosted a roster of notable guests through the years (John Wayne, President Dwight D. Eisenhower and George Clooney, among them), and the downtown location is within walking distance of the Alamo, museums and other local attractions. Although many authentic elements like airy 12-foot ceilings, mosaics, tapestries and gold leaf-trimmed columns remain (and look better than ever), the property now houses 277 modern guest rooms and suites decked out with contemporary features including sleek neutral color palettes, high-end bedding, Bose Wave radios and lavish bathrooms with luxurious finishes. Visitors should make time to check out the restored original 1924 Steinway piano and the sparkling hand-cut chandeliers, as well as the outdoor ballroom and the on-site Sculpture Garden. Not surprisingly, the hotel is a popular site for weddings, parties and special events.
