Best Brunch Hotels in the US
This hotel enjoys a rich history in one of Mother Nature's most dramatic settings.
This National Historic Landmark is set within one of the country's most glorious open spaces: Yosemite National Park. Built in 1927, the six-story, stone-and-sugar pine beauty juts out from the bottom of a dramatic granite cliff. Queen Elizabeth and President John F. Kennedy stayed here while visiting the area, and the hotel continues to maintain the high standards that drew such illustrious guests. The gorgeous, tasteful décor is an eclectic mix of styles, ranging from Native American to Art Deco.
Guests can choose from 123 rooms, including suites and private cottages. All accommodations include cable TV, refrigerators and pillow-top mattresses. Of particular note: The El Dorado Suite, with its sunken living room, served as a chapel for military men during World War II. Elsewhere on the property, the enormous dining room has a 34-foot ceiling with top-to-bottom stained glass windows and oversize, wrought-iron chandeliers. Equally eye-catching is the Solarium with its glass walls, jasper fountain and lush gardens. The hotel is a short walk to trails that climb into the park from the Yosemite Valley. It also is served by the free shuttle buses that crisscross the park.
