Glamour and discretion welcome guests at this serene Miami hotel.
Barefoot, sand-strolling passers-by may initially recognize The Setai for its immense 40-story tower gracing the white sands of South Beach, Miami, but if they were to look a bit deeper, they would discover architectural history tucked into the original building that was once the famous Dempsey Vanderbilt Hotel of the 1930s. The property was renovated and established in 2004 by famous hotelier Adrian Zecha. Although the building is Art Deco, you won't find any pastel South Beach style here. Set in tropical gardens at the edge of the Atlantic, the whole place is all about a tasteful, understated Zen tranquility.
Guests are greeted by a bronze and leather draped lobby which incorporates antique grey bricks from Shanghai and tropical timber in the walls. The 85 rooms and one-, two-, or three-bedroom suites, are all decorated with teak wood floors and warm earth-tone colors. Amenities include in-room tubs for personal spa treatments, CD/DVD players, flat screen LCD and plasma TVs, Lavazza espresso makers and high-speed Internet access. The tower offers 130 residential apartments, but a small collection rooms is available for nightly accommodations.
Adjacent to the lobby is a large courtyard that intertwines palm trees and shaded benches amongst a pond with a fountain and an outdoor bar.
If the warm, white sands nearby aren't inviting enough for sunny relaxation, The Spa at The Setai offers an array of wellness treatments influenced by Paris-based beauty brand THÉMAÉ.
Asian aromas and scents flow out of the hotel's main dining venue, Jaya, serves global cuisine, uniting the flavors of Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, India, China and Japan. For those who would like to dine beachside The Ocean Grill provides Mediterranean style cuisine and chilled beverages.
Oceanfront surroundings offer an abundance of recreational options, from yachting to deep-sea diving, and the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean create an ideal setting for honeymoons. For those who prefer to float without the salt and sand, there are three outdoor pools, which are all set at different temperatures. Yoga, Pilates and a fitness center are available for those who want to stay dry.
