The 1804 Inn & Cottages
These elegant cottages and manor house provide the perfect complement to the birthplace of American wine.
This tastefully restored Georgian villa is a bastion of authentic style, from its hand-hewn floors to its discreet antique furnishings. It is located on the Barboursville Vineyards estate (Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and James Madison's historical Montpelier are close by), and its accommodations include the villa and three freestanding cottages featuring elegant bedrooms and suites. Palladio Restaurant serves Northern Italian cuisine with an emphasis on regional produce and vintages from the winery, founded by Italian winemakers Gianni and Silvana Zonin in 1976. The on-site Tuscan Tasting Room is open daily, and Library 1821 offers wine pairings with small bites. Of note on the grounds are the landmark ruins of the manor house designed by Thomas Jefferson for Virginia governor James Barbour in 1921.
