Morrison-Clark Historic Inn & Restaurant

1015 L. St. NW (Massachusetts Ave. NW) Washington, D.C. DC

The charm of a country inn in the middle of downtown Washington.

This Victorian mansion was originally constructed in 1864 as two separate town homes and today is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Although it is surrounded by innovative, ever-evolving Washington, D.C., it has maintained its rich Southern heritage. After a 2013 renovation that included a six-story, 43,000-square-foot addition (incorporating the former Chinese Community Church and Parsonage), guests now enter through the retained, sculptured façade of the church into a two-story lobby that features a large lobby bar. The restaurant is known throughout the city for excellent, upscale American cuisine in beautiful surroundings. This hotel is a great option for those who want comfortable elegance within walking distance of Georgetown and the White House. Located near the Washington Convention Center, the property has 114 guest rooms with high ceilings and Italian marble fireplaces, all finished in neutral tones with Neoclassical flair. Some Parlor Suites display French country décor, with wicker, pine and floral motifs as well as handmade quilts. Victorian Rooms are done in rich blues and peachy reds, and have chandeliers, antiques and (in some instances) private balconies. The overall classic style belies the hotel’s full complement of modern amenities, including an on-site fitness center. A large courtyard is open for outdoor dining, weather permitting. Breakfast is served daily in the parlor.
