Sun Mountain Lodge
An emphasis on service amid lots of character.
This resort is set on a rounded mountaintop and faces north toward the Canadian border. It offers a magnificent 360-degree view of the Cascade Mountains. While it showcases contemporary design and construction, its past as a horse ranch is still in evidence. Western-style horseback rides are offered during the day, and barbecues take place at the old homestead on summer nights. The less-expensive lodge rooms tend to be popular with families---they include great views but no TVs. Rooms in the more luxurious Gardner Wing overlook Mt. Gardner and have gas fireplaces. Posh Mt. Robinson rooms boast sitting areas, whirlpool tubs and decks. The hotel is adjacent to 200 miles of trails on private and public land, and it has one of the largest contiguous systems of groomed Nordic trails in North America.
