The Soho Hotel

Designer Kit Kemp redefines gray in a sexy Soho hotel.

This has been called the most glamorous hotel in the world --- a title that proves rather hard to dispute. Like many of the Firmdale properties designed by Kit Kemp, The Soho Hotel defies stylistic definition. Eclectic is the word that comes to mind as you enter the lobby with its red walls, Plexiglas table legs and curved benches. With their log-burning fireplaces and honesty bars, the two drawing rooms are more traditional, with a hint of the Orient about them. The 91 bedrooms include Terrace Suites with tree-lined terraces overlooking London. Of note in the rooms is the powerful (and relaxing) use of gray. Ruby on gray, periwinkle on gray and dark gray on gray. Amenities are notably upscale: high-speed Internet access, flat screen TVs and DVD/CD players. Whimsical touches include a dressmaker's dummy here, a wooden jaguar there. On the ground floor, Refuel bar and restaurant features a pewter bar and a mural reflecting its car park roots. The menu changes monthly, and small bites such as Italian and Moroccan food platters are available throughout the day to accompany drinks. The comfy deep leather armchairs in the two private screening rooms were designed by Poltrana Frau; the hotel is often filled with film journalists attending screenings and interviewing celebrities, so keep your eyes peeled for Brad or perhaps Angelina roaming around ...
