Lake Placid Lodge

This ultra-luxe, lakeview lodge enjoys a rustic Adirondacks setting five hours from New York City.

After a 2005 fire destroyed the historic main lodge (and a significant wine collection), this legendary resort emerged better than ever three years later. The Arts and Crafts style suits the setting, surrounded by woodland on the shores of Lake Placid. This property pulls off the perfect blend of rustic and sophisticated in its wide variety of accommodations. Along with classic Lodge Rooms boasting hand-hewn wood beams and impressive stonework, there are also Lakeside Suites with covered balconies, Private Cabins individually designed by Adirondack craftsmen and Overlook Rooms with wood-burning fireplaces and covered porches.

Adornment throughout includes local antiques and artwork, and much of the furniture is made of smooth birch bark. The showcase furnishing is a bedstead sculpted like a tree root coming out of the floor. Designed for romance, most of the cabins have feather beds, deep tubs, double-headed showers and peaceful views of the water. Equally romantic is the lodge's dine-in Wine Cellar, located at Artisans Restaurant, which showcases a daily changing, four-course dinner menu focusing on regional ingredients. Summer offers fishing, kayaking and canoeing, while winter is a highlight given the hotel's setting near Whiteface Mountain and the 1980 Olympic Oval in the village of Lake Placid. For meetings and special events, the lodge provides signature venues, farm-to-table catering and dedicated coordinating teams. Children 12 and up are welcome year-round, with special dates set aside for guests of all ages.
