Lake Placid Lodge

Ultra-luxe lakeview lodge just five hours from New York City.

After a 2005 fire destroyed the historic main lodge --- and a significant wine collection --- this legendary resort came back better than ever three years later. Built in the Arts and Crafts tradition and nestled in a lakeside setting, it brings together all the best elements of its natural surroundings. Set on Lake Placid and in the shadow of imposing Whiteface Mountain, the wood-bedecked lodge has thirteen guest rooms and seventeen waterfront cabins. This property pulls off the perfect blend of rustic and luxurious. Adornment includes local antiques and artwork, and much of the furniture is made of smooth birch bark. The showcase furnishing is a bedstead sculpted like a tree root coming out of the floor. Designed for romance, most of the log cabins have feather beds, deep tubs, double-headed showers and peaceful views of the water. All rooms have stone wood-burning fireplaces and overlook the mountain and/or lake through diamond shaped windows. The second-floor balcony is set in a wooden rotunda-like structure attached to the lodge and offers pristine views, making it the perfect dining venue.
