The Best Films of 2015
Brooklyn is featured as both one of the best romantic films on GAYOT and as one of the best in 2015.
The immigrant experience in America has been the subject of countless films, but none is more beautifully realized than "Brooklyn." Director John Crowley and screenwriter Nick Hornby have seamlessly adapted the Colm Toibin novel about Ellis, a young Irish woman who gets the chance to emigrate to New York City in the early 1950s. The luminous Saiorse Ronan gives an award-winning performance in the role, as she navigates a new world while still being drawn back towards her old life. "Brooklyn" resonates on many levels, from its perfect depiction of an era (the costumes and production design are first rate) to the way it captures the mixed emotions experienced by immigrants as they begin new lives far from their native homes. Watch for Emory Cohen, who plays Ellis' Italian-American love interest, too; he's an actor who is going places fast.
