With its vivid, cotton candy colors and light-hearted plot, Populaire is a delightfully retro, feel-good film with a serious visual agenda.

Rose Pamphyle, a small-town secretary, rises to the ranks of speed-typing champion under the watchful (and later romantically-inclined) eye of Louis Échard, her insurance agent boss. A romanticized 1950s setting is captured throughout the film, through the dreamy lens of typewriters, romance and French charm.
