There's weird, and then there's Wes Anderson weird.
The writer/director's films ("Rushmore," "The Royal Tenenbaums"), move at a unique rhythm while his A-list actors turn deadpan into an art form. Bill Murray is the title character in this clever Jacques Cousteau parody, which features the oceanographer trying to make a documentary about killing a shark that ate his longtime partner (Seymour Cassell). While struggling to get financing and begin the not-so-green mission, he also vies for the affections of a pregnant woman (Cate Blanchett) and reconnects with his possible long-lost son (Owen Wilson) while fending off his rival (Jeff Goldblum), pirates and mutinous interns. The quirky, whimsical adventure comedy also features animated underwater special effects, a fantastic ship set and David Bowie songs performed in Portuguese.
