The National Museum of Singapore

Behind this neo-Palladian façade, a state-of-the-art 52-foot-high addition of glass and steel galleries allows the country's oldest museum to mount cutting edge exhibitions on topics somewhat unexpected for this conservative city-state. In 2006, the museum underwent a complete renovation in preparation for its 125th anniversary in 2012. Here, you can see multiple permanent displays on Singapore's history, including antique ethnic costumes and a rotating calendar of lectures and cultural events, or catch a film at the Cinematheque.
