Tour the grounds of the ancient Diocletian Palace in Split, Croatia

Diocletian Palace is the city's main attraction and a fitting testament to Split's unique place in European history.  This historic site is more like a fortress with 12th- and 13th-century Roman churches, medieval forts, and gothic and Baroque palaces within its walls, although the structure itself was first built in the fourth century AD by Roman Emperor Diocletian. Wander around Split's many town squares, from the musical Peristil to the romantic Narodni Trg, which is overlooked by a Roman clock tower, and stop by Nostromo, where you can experience Split's finest seafood.
