Make a stop at this palace-turned-art gallery.
Visitors to Venice will want to explore this historic palace on the Grand Canal. The structure dates back to the 15th century and has had many owners throughout it existence from the Contarini royal family to a ballet dancer. When baron Giorgio Franchetti acquired the property he entrusted it to the Italian state in 1916.
Today, Ca’ d’Oro is open to the public as an art gallery and displays pieces from the baron's collection, such as paintings, sculptures and furniture. There's also a beautiful inner courtyard that has a floor made with ancient marble mosaic by Franchetti.
