Get close to a Hollywood Icon: Hike one of the best routes in L.A.
Though you can't walk right up to the sign — it's illegal and security cameras monitor the area — several hikes will give you great views of this ubiquitous emblem of Tinseltown. The Hollyridge Trail is the most popular hike, but a newly installed gate limits vehicular access, so you may have to park a mile south of the trailhead. Alternately, you can try the Canyon Boulevard Trail, which gives you a good workout, expansive views and ends behind the Hollywood Sign. You'll also be in proximity to another Hollywood landmark, the Bronson Caves, which have appeared in more than 100 movies and TV shows, most famously as the Batcave in the 1960s "Batman" TV series.
Take note that soon the Beachwood Canyon gate will no longer be accessible to pedestrians as a way of reaching the Hollywood Sign. Hikers will instead be redirected to Griffith Park trails at Canyon Drive and Vermont Avenue.
