You can find authentic tastes of Armenia in two LA neighborhoods — Little Armenia in East Hollywood and the city of Glendale in the Valley.
With one of the world's largest ethnic Armenian populations outside Armenia, Los Angeles is awash with Armenian food.
Along the busy stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard in East Hollywood is where you'll find the official Little Armenia. Here, you will love Marouch for meze and kebab. On Hollywood Boulevard inside the Hye Plaza strip mall is where you can dig into lula kebab and the city's best muhammara at Carousel.
Drive about 20 minutes northeast to Glendale's Central Avenue and read the cursive Armenian writing advertising bakeries, coffee shops, grocery stores and restaurants. At Elena's Greek Armenian Cuisine, feast on hummus and lavash, kebab and quail, before finishing with sweet baklava and strong Armenian coffee. Then shop for Armenian cheese, rosewater, olive oil, baklava and more at Jons on Colorado Street.
Glendale also features Zankou Chicken on Colorado Street, considered by many to have the best rotisserie-roasted chicken (smeared with garlic-lemon paste) in town. Or, check out the original location of the restaurant on Sunset Boulevard.
