Best Things to Do
Northeast Los Angeles
The area northeast of Downtown Los Angeles encompasses a number of neighborhoods and cities including Pasadena, a lush area marked by its Victorian and art deco buildings. It's also home to Old Town Pasadena, a popular shopping and dining district, as well as the Rose Bowl stadium where the annual Rose Bowl Game is held on January 1 after the Tournament of Roses parade. Pasadena is also home to many scientific and cultural institutions, including the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Located in the nearby San Rafael Hills, the ultra-upscale city of San Marino is lined with mansions but the real draw is the Huntington Library and gardens, a sprawling property where the public can peruse the extensive art collection and spend a day strolling the 120 acres of landscaped botanical gardens including a gorgeous Japanese Garden, Desert Garden and Chinese Garden.
