Who Says Nobody Walks in L.A.?

An up-close view of Downtown Los Angeles

Since 1980 — decades before Downtown L.A. achieved its recent trendiness — the Los Angeles Conservancy has promoted the neighborhood's architectural richness with informative walking tours. Delve into Union Station, known as the last great railway station in America. Opened in 1939, the structure is a blend of Art Deco and Spanish Colonial Revival styles. Or discover the history and Beaux-Arts architecture of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. Check out Angelino Heights, a beautifully preserved section of Echo Park with the highest concentration of Victorian homes in the entire city. Visit the opulent movie palaces on Broadway, the onetime entertainment center of L.A. Tours are generally offered Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. and cost $10. Reservations are recommended.
