A balance of Little Tokyo East and West.
A center of Japanese culture and history, Little Tokyo near downtown Los Angeles has become a tourist destination where you can find authentic Japanese food, restaurants and products from electronics to fine china.
Japanese Village Plaza is situated right at the entry to the Little Tokyo District in downtown LA. Paper lanterns hang throughout and buildings carry a hint of Japanese-inspired architecture, most notably apparent in the tiled roofs. Here, visitors can shop stores such as Little Tokyo Cosmetics and clothing boutique Japangeles. Those with an appetite for Japanese cuisine will find a variety of dining options that include Shabu Shabu House, Ramen Maruya and Gazen.
In West LA, a stretch of Sawtelle Boulevard just north of Olympic has become a Little Tokyo West (formerly known as "Little Osaka"). Here you'll find Japanese restaurants and noodle shops, several wonderful Japanese nurseries, Japanese video stores and hip clothing boutiques, such as BlackMarketLA. Check out Bar Hayama, an upscale sushi bar in Little Osaka with one of the city's best saké lists.
