USS Midway

Commissioned just days after the end of World War II, the USS Midway was the United States Navy's lead aircraft carrier in its heyday and the largest ship in the world until 1955.

The USS Midway endures as one of San Diego's most popular museums

The ship saw extensive action during the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm before retiring to San Diego Bay in 1992. Today, the USS Midway endures as one of San Diego's most popular museums. Exhibits include the crew's sleeping quarters, the ship's jail, the galley and primary flight control.

Guests can also climb aboard restored aircraft, ranging from World War II bombers to Desert Storm fighter jets, and try their hand at flight simulators and interactive exhibits. Take time to talk to the museum docents, many of whom are retired navy personnel and are more than happy to share their own stories.
