Coit Tower

The iconic tower was funded by wealthy socialite Lillie Hitchcock Coit who wanted to beautify the city.

Coit Tower in San Francisco stands at 210-feet tall

Its bay and city vistas, location atop Telegraph Hill and proximity to Little Italy make it one of the best spots to savor San Francisco's scenery and culture. As you climb nearly 400 stairs to the observation deck, you'll see murals on the walls — commissioned by the Public Works of Art Project (a precursor of the Works Progress Administration) — depicting Depression-era life. The 1930s Art Deco tower is surrounded by lush trees where parrots flock, and it's just a short walk to the Filbert Steps, Washington Square Park and the Embarcadero.
