El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park

Take a step back into Santa Barbara's past with a visit to one of the city's historic sites.

Statue of Carlos III, King of Spain at El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park

Situated downtown is El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park founded in 1782, the last of four Spanish fortresses erected along the Alta California coast. Two of the original adobe buildings — El Cuartel and the Cañedo Adobe — still stand today on the property and are open to the public for self-guided tours. Start off at the Visitor's Center to get an overview of the historic park by a staff member, and take a look at the exhibits there as well.
