Jackson Square also known as Place d'Armes, is a marvelous public space

Jackson Square also known as Place d'Armes, is a marvelous public space, with people flooding its flagstones to critique sidewalk artists, gaze at some of the city's most important historic buildings (St. Louis Cathedral, Presbytere and the Cabildo are located here), or hopscotch among the shops and cafés. In the middle of the square, surrounded by a high iron fence, is a well-maintained green park, centered on a flamboyant equestrian statue of General Andrew Jackson, who beat the invading British in the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 and went on to become president.
