Years ago, the Meatpacking District was once mostly industrial, but it fell on hard times and became rather rundown and seedy. However, the area was cleaned up, and it is now a hip hot spot for restaurants, clubs and hotels. The Standard Hotel dominates the neighborhood with its kitschy, neo-functionalist architecture. Gawk at the high-heeled ladies who seem to stroll as if they're on a catwalk, and then head for one of New York's other sensations: the High Line Park.
