Proudly welcoming all who enter New York Harbor from her perch just south of Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty is an enduring symbol of American opportunity.
A gift from the people of France (all 225 tons of her), Lady Liberty remains one of New York City's most popular attractions — so be sure to book reservations for tours as far ahead as possible. The 10-minute boat ride from Battery Park drops you off at Liberty Island, and from there you can explore the grounds and pedestal, or climb the 377 spiral steps to the crown. A panoramic vista awaits you at the top, with stunning views of New York Harbor, Lower Manhattan, Ellis Island and the Verrazano Bridge. Or you can enjoy the statue as the locals do on the Staten Island Ferry, which passes right by the landmark free of charge and always has space.
