The once-crumbling elevated railway along the west side of Lower Manhattan has transformed into one of New York City's most celebrated attractions.

The High Line offers excellent views of Manhattan from 30 feet in the air

Running from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District through Chelsea to 34th Street, the 1.45-mile High Line public park offers excellent views of Manhattan from 30 feet in the air — plus a decent workout if you walk the entire distance. The route also boasts dogwood trees, rose bushes, fountains, art installations, children's play areas and maybe even a few glimpses into high-end Chelsea apartments. Visit on a weekday afternoon and you'll have more of the park to yourself.
