Powel House

A house that entertained many famous visitors.

Powel House

Built in 1765, the Powel House was owned by the last mayor of Philadelphia while it was still under the rule of the Crown, and subsequently the first mayor after the U.S. became the new Republic.

This luxurious mid-Georgian 18th-century mansion was once the home of Elizabeth and Samuel Powel — friends of Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and George Washington. Public tours are available on a designated schedule.
