Hill-Physick House

The 18th-century mansion of Dr. Philip Syng Physick.

The Hill-Physick House

In Society Hill, you'll find historic buildings open to the public, including the Hill-Physick House (commonly known as the Physick House). The structure dates back to 1786 and is the last free-standing Federal townhouse remaining in this neighborhood. Dr. Philip Syng Physick, known as the "Father of American Surgery," inhabited the Physick House from 1815 to 1837. On display are French-influenced Neoclassic furnishings and even surgical tools used by the doctor.
