Discover the healing waters of Budapest.

In Budapest, where thermal spring-fed pools are a national resource, bathing in one of the city's 130 mineral spring pools is part of the local lifestyle. Budapest has had the reputation as an international medicinal "Bathing City" since the 1930s, since the sodium, magnesium, sulphur and fluoride in the waters have long been considered an antidote to rheumatic pains and arthritic conditions.

Though the cost is minimal, some of the city's public pools are outrageously extravagant, even palatial. These include the exquisitely romantic Danubius Gellért Bath; the small, Bauhaus-styled jewel, the Dandár; and the Széchenyi, a neo-Baroque complex where 13 of the 18 pools are thermal and men play in-water chess as steam rises around them.

The Gellért Bath and Spa, which is connected to the Danubius Hotel Gellért offers amazing aquatic facilities, featuring an indoor aerated swimming pool, thermal baths (for use by women and men), outdoor swimming pool with wave bath, outdoor thermal bath, Jacuzzi, steam room, sun terrace, solarium and sauna. Beauty services are provided as well by the Santevíta Beauty Salon where guests can book a massage, nail care services and more.

Note that the Gellért Bath and Spa is operated independently of the hotel. First entry is free when you book a room at Danubius Hotel Gellért, and for additional visits hotel guests are given 50 percent discount off daily ticket price. A ticket does not have to be purchased to enjoy services at the beauty salon.
