Home to one of the world’s busiest airports and one of the country’s most happening downtown scenes, Atlanta alone will keep Georgia on your mind. But there’s more to the Peach State than its revitalized capital. Travelers will find plenty to explore in the town of Augusta, while adventurers will be thrilled by the Southern Cross Guest Ranch in Madison. The state is also a goldmine for heritage travel, bringing to life African American, Civil War and Native American experiences of the South.
Georgia has been commonly referred to as "The Peach State" because of its past as a lead producer of the fruit. Although the state has not been a major producer of peaches for awhile, the name still sticks and peaches are still considered the state fruit.
