The Siena Hotel, Autograph Collection
Under the Tuscan sun in laid back Chapel Hill.
This privately owned, palazzo like property is a wonderful alternative to the Southern Belles that dominate the hotel scene in the region. Sure, it's a bit over the top---there are a lot of candelabras, columns, cherubs and au naturel statuary about---but this kind of stylistic decadence is its charm. While elegant, the 80 bedrooms are far more subdued than the public spaces. This is relative, of course, as you're still indulged with such delights as gilded mirrors, hand-carved armoires (housing monogrammed robes), and marble topped desks with custom leather writing blotters. French doors open onto balconies, some of the suites have circular Roman tubs, and Belgian chocolates are left on your pillow at turndown. Modern amenities include three phones with two incoming lines each, voice mail and data ports; local calls are free. In keeping with the Tuscan theme, Il Palio restaurant serves Executive Chef Adam Rose's Italian cuisine in a setting of columns, hand-carved credenzas, Venetian prints and a specially commissioned, lighted mural of the Sienese skyline. Guests enjoy complimentary membership (if you're 18 or older) to a comprehensive health club nearby. If you're looking for a wedding venue, this property is certainly a romantic choice.
