The Best Beers Brewed With Real Fruit

Banana beer, anyone? There was a time when men wouldn't drink fruit beers, calling them "girly beers." While many fruit beers earn the stereotype due to their overuse of fruit extracts, adjuncts and added sugars, those made with real fruit flavor and character merit our attention. We have the Belgians to thank for first eschewing the German Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot) — which requires that beer contain only water, yeast, malt and hops — by throwing several varieties of fruit into their brews. While raspberry and cherry are the most common varieties found in beer, our list also includes brews with banana, blueberry, strawberry, apricot, peach, tangerine, black currant and apple.
