Meantime Scotch Ale

Top 10 Sipping Beers

Meantime Scotch Ale weighs in at 8 percent ABV

SCOTCH ALE / WEE HEAVY

Meantime Brewing Company Scotch Ale

Not to be confused with the Scottish Ale style, Scotch Ales pack a higher alcohol punch, are fermented at lower temperatures than other English ales, are cold conditioned for six to eight weeks and are typically full-bodied and malty. In this version, the wort is cooked down to caramelize the malt, intensifying the malt sweetness. Aromas of sweet plum and a deep mahogany appearance greet the senses upon pouring. The sweet caramel malt takes on a candy-like flavor, with some faint smokiness and dark cocoa in the silky finish. Although this ale weighs in at 8 percent ABV, the alcohol strength is easily missed amongst the creamy texture and malty sweetness, excellent for sipping and savoring.

Price: $11.99 for 750 ml
