The potent Victory Brewing Company V Twelve is best enjoyed in small sips

Victory Brewing Company V Twelve

The Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Victory Brewing Company produced a series of beers that proclaimed the alcohol strength loud and clear by naming each after the beer's alcohol by volume. When they got to twelve, they retired the series for good, and added the slogan "Liquid Luxury." This Belgian clone is composed of Belgian yeast, two-row malts and whole flower Styrian Goldings and German Tettnang hops. It pours a dark orange and, because it's bottle-conditioned, is a bit hazy with yeast sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Flavors of sweet malt, toffee, dark fruits and spicy alcohol comingle for a rich, thick drink. A beer with such formidable strength is certainly not one to pound, but one best enjoyed in sips to appreciate the myriad flavors; the large 750 ml packaging makes it ideal to share with friends.

Note: The recommended serving temperature for a quadruple is 55 to 60 degrees. To fully experience this beer, serve at 45 degrees and drink slowly to experience subtle changes in flavor as it warms. Quadruples are best enjoyed in a tulip-shaped glass, which enhances the beer's volatiles (compounds that evaporate from beer to create its aroma) and induces a large foamy head.

Price: $8 for 750 ml
