Returning to the Top 40 is The Restaurant at Meadowood, an extraordinary wine country venue that has vaulted to stardom with chef Christopher Kostow since his arrival in 2008. A former philosophy major, Kostow describes his goal in creating modern California cuisine to be evocative, not provocative, even if that does mean serving up goat poached in whey, osmanthus marshmallow, and Howell mountain ash tree berry compote. Embracing the Napa ethos, the restaurant’s atmosphere is more casual and relaxed than one might suppose given its steep prices and luxe resort surroundings.
