Hollis Wilder is my favorite kind of warrior: the chef is the three-time winner of Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars”. If you indulge in her creations like I have, “cupcake” will take on a whole different meaning. She ingeniously transformed a smoked salmon egg salad into a delicious savory cupcake which helped her win Season 1 in 2009. This year, she won Season 8 with her jalapeño popper. She even makes ratatouille cupcakes!

For a week during the peak of every summer, SF Chefs lets Northern California’s top chefs work their magic for food lovers from all over the world at a series of classes, cooking demonstrations, special meals, blind tastings, competitions, panel discussions, gala parties and other wildly popular events throughout San Francisco. Although the much-awaited festival is still a month away, the SF Chefs kickoff party thrown on June 25th on the 36th floor of the Grand Hyatt San Francisco provided a sneak peek at what we can expect to see (and eat and drink) once the official fun begins on July 28.
While Aston Martin has long been known for its fast and fuel-thirsty luxury vehicles, a pair of recent partnerships hint at the British badge’s increasing interest in alternative fuels. In May, Aston Martin made racing history by entering the first hydrogen-powered car in an FIA-sanctioned event at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The result of a collaboration with powertrain specialist Alset Global, the Aston Martin Hybrid Hydrogen Rapide S was also the first car to complete emission-free laps in an international race—at times at speeds of up to 160 mph. Fitted with the same 6.0-liter V12 as the base model Rapide, the four-door sports car can run on pure gaseous hydrogen, standard gasoline, or a combination of both. Although it has already proven itself road-worthy after this grueling event, a production version of the Hybrid Hydrogen Rapide is at least another five years away.

Leopold, when he’s not creating spectacular banana splits or hand-dipping double scoops of mocha chocolate chip ice cream into cones for patrons who line up daily out the door of the little ice cream parlor/lunch shop, is a freelance Hollywood producer and former executive vice president of production at Paramount Pictures. He has also worked as an actor, casting director, executive and production manager during his long and successful career. Among his recent projects are “Parker,” “Captain America: the First Avenger” and “Mission: Impossible III.”
Let’s face it: auto bras, those pesky pieces of vinyl that protect the front-end of your car from road debris, are ugly and quite expensive. Besides, what guy wants to suffer the embarrassment of squeezing his car into a “bra”?
