Hollis Wilder is my favorite kind of warrior: the chef is the three-time winner of Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars”. If you indulge in her creations like I have, “cupcake” will take on a whole different meaning. She ingeniously transformed a smoked salmon egg salad into a delicious savory cupcake which helped her win Season 1 in 2009. This year, she won Season 8 with her jalapeño popper. She even makes ratatouille cupcakes!

plug in hybrid Aston Martin Introduces Alternative Fuel Vehicles Car News

While Aston Martin has long been known for its fast and fuel-thirsty luxury vehicles, a pair of recent partnerships hint at the British badge’s increasing interest in alternative fuels. In May, Aston Martin made racing history by entering the first hydrogen-powered car in an FIA-sanctioned event at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The result of a collaboration with powertrain specialist Alset Global, the Aston Martin Hybrid Hydrogen Rapide S was also the first car to complete emission-free laps in an international race—at times at speeds of up to 160 mph. Fitted with the same 6.0-liter V12 as the base model Rapide, the four-door sports car can run on pure gaseous hydrogen, standard gasoline, or a combination of both. Although it has already proven itself road-worthy after this grueling event, a production version of the Hybrid Hydrogen Rapide is at least another five years away.

Actor Sir Anthony Hopkins and Stratton Leopold of Leopold’s Ice Cream

by Patricia Mack

Ask wife Mary and she will tell you that Stratton Leopold has a passion for washing soda fountain glasses, be it at home or work at the nearly century-old Leopold’s Ice Cream in Savannah, GA.

He also has a passion for making movies.

Leopold, when he’s not creating spectacular banana splits or hand-dipping double scoops of mocha chocolate chip ice cream into cones for patrons who line up daily out the door of the little ice cream parlor/lunch shop, is a freelance Hollywood producer and former executive vice president of production at Paramount Pictures. He has also worked as an actor, casting director, executive and production manager during his long and successful career. Among his recent projects are “Parker,” “Captain America: the First Avenger” and “Mission: Impossible III.”

Three Months of Stylish Paint & Body Protection

Let’s face it: auto bras, those pesky pieces of vinyl that protect the front-end of your car from road debris, are ugly and quite expensive.
Besides, what guy wants to suffer the embarrassment of squeezing his car into a “bra”?

Iron Horse 2004 Chinese Cuvée

Choosing wines to serve honored guests is seldom simple, especially if you’re the President of the United States of America. At his June 7-8 summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage, California, President Obama served the 2004 Chinese Cuvée from Iron Horse Vineyards. This was a particularly astute selection, since the Chinese Cuvée was created to celebrate the current Year of the Snake. And because the Chinese zodiac consists of a twelve-year cycle, this means that 1953, the year that Xi Jinping was born, was also a Year of the Snake.

This was not the first time, however, that the Chinese Cuvée had been served to Xi Jinping. Vice President Joe Biden toasted him with it at a State Department luncheon on February 14, 2012. According to Iron Horse Vineyards’s website, their sparkling wines “have been served at the White House for the past five consecutive presidential administrations, beginning with the historic Reagan-Gorbachev Summit Meetings, which lead to the end of the Cold War.”

  • pinitbutton The Many Flavors of Belvedere Vodka

by Sophie Gayot

What better way to discover (or rediscover) Belvedere Vodka than with Claire Smith, the Head of Spirit Creation & Mixology for the company, seen in the video above? You will also learn what the Polish government has done to protect the spirit, which it considers a very important national treasure.

What Smith did not tell us is that vodka, which originates from Poland, was once considered “medication” and was introduced to Russia in the fourteenth century by the Genovese. Way back when, medicine as we know it today was almost nonexistent, so it is easy to understand why doctors were using vodka as a treatment!
