Meaty Memories from Tampa, Florida

[youtube id=”E8is4LW-81A”] by Sophie Gayot I recently enjoyed my longest dinner ever: after arriving at the restaurant at 8:30 p.m., I didn’t leave until 2 a.m. Where was that? At Bern’s Steak House in Tampa, Florida. Why? Because I wanted to get a real feel of the oh-so-famous steakhouse, one of the GAYOT.com Top 10 Steakhouses in the U.S. Checking out the entire 740-seat venue is like touring a museum. In broad strokes, there are: – the dining rooms; – the world largest restaurant wine cellar (watch a video tour of it) – the enormous kitchen, complete with live lobster tank, coffee grinders, spice cage, cave du fromage, and much more; – the Harry Waugh Dessert Room; – the Caesar salad prepared tableside (watch the video); – and, of course, the dinner. Besides all of that, I also got to spend time in the 34-degree (Fahrenheit) dry-aging room with chef de cuisine Habteab Hamde. Quite a carnivorous trip, definitely NOT recommended for vegetarians. You may read the just updated review of the restaurant to learn more.   A little note about the wine cellar: Bern’s Steak House may have the most bottles at 500,000 from 7,000 labels, meanwhile La Tour d’Argent in Paris has more selections with 14,000 names but “only” 420,000 bottles.
